Candidate of Biological Sciences, Docent
Born in 1983, graduated in 2005 from the St. Petersburg State Chemical-Pharmaceutical Academy, Faculty of Pharmacy, specialist in "Organization and Economics of Pharmacy". In September 2007, he completed an advanced training course (re-specialization) "Radiation Hygiene and Radiation Protection" at St-Petersburg Medical Academy of Post-graduate Education. In 2015. He graduated with honors from the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University after Peter the Great with a degree in medical physics.
After joining the Institute of Radiation Hygiene after P.V. Ramzaev in 2007 A.V. Vodovatov worked his way up from a junior researcher at the protection laboratory (2007) to the position of the head of the laboratory of radiation hygiene of medical facilities (2017), in which he is currently working. Since 2020, he has been concurrently a docent of the Department of Hygiene at the St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University.
Since 2007 A.V. Vodovatov is the head of the laboratory of radiation hygiene of medical organizations at the St. Petersburg Research Institute of Radiation Hygiene after prof. P.V. Ramzaev, whose main field of activity is to assess the levels of medical exposure of the population of the Russian Federation and to develop scientific basis for ensuring the radiation safety of personnel, patients and public in X-ray diagnostics and nuclear medicine, considering the development of the equipment in the Russian Federation and the implementation of new perspective high-dose methods of X-ray diagnostics and therapy.
A.V. Vodovatov is a specialist in the field of radiation protection from medical exposure, in particular the protection of patients and the public in X-ray diagnostics. In 2017 he defended his thesis "Application of reference diagnostic levels to optimize the protection of patients in X-ray examinations" for the degree of candidate of biological sciences in the specialty 14.02.01 - hygiene. A.V. Vodovatov scientifically substantiated and developed methods for establishing reference diagnostic levels for the most common X-ray examinations, scientifically substantiated the concept of quality assurance of X-ray examinations, developed methods for reducing patient doses in radiography and assessing the diagnostic quality of X-ray images.
A.V. Vodovatov participates in the development of the main national regulatory and methodological documents in the field of radiation protection: Federal State Law FZ-3 "On radiation safety of the population", Norms of the radiation safety NRB-99/2021, Basic sanitary rules on the radiation safety OSPORB-99/2021, special sanitary rules on the radiation safety in the field of medical exposure. He is a co-author of 11 guidelines and recommendations. He has more than 100 publications, of which more than 90 are devoted to topical issues of radiation protection during medical exposure, co-author of one monograph.
A.V. Vodovatov is the UNSCEAR expert on occupational exposure in medicine, the national contact person of the IAEA in the field of radiation protection in medicine.
