Abstract

The research of radiation-hygienic situation of the region neighboring the place of peaceful nuclear explosion «Tavda» showed the absence of the release of radionuclides to the surface. There were no any publications in local massmedia for the last 5 years. The most of the respondents are not aware of this explosion. They don’t show symptoms of radio anxiety about possible consequences of this explosion. The respondents are interested in information about possible influence of radiation on their health and protective measures from radiation. The adequate Recommendations have been developed for Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights protection and Human Well-being.

Abstract

In a large village Veprin of the Bryanskregion of Russiacontaminated with radionuclides as a result of the Chernobylaccident, 137Сs concentration in food products of agricultural produce and natural origin was regularly measured, local inhabitants were polled on the composition of their food ration, and 137Сs content in their bodies was at the same time measured. These results were used as the basis for calculation of annual effective doses of internal exposure to inhabitants and for reconstruction of the dose during the entire period after the accident. It will be divided into two stages: 1986–1996 yy and 1997–2012 yy. In this paper devoted to the first period (1986–1996), internal dose was reconstructed for 11 years after the accident, and the efficiency of countermeasures performed for reduction of the internal dose was assessed. The internal dose to inhabitants during the past 11 years after the accident was shown to be reduced almost twice, namely down to 35 mSv instead of the expected 70 mSv. The dose of external gamma radiation during the same time period is close to the obtained dose of internal exposure. The presence of peat and water-meadow soils in the vicinity of this village that are characterised by high transfer factors for radionuclides from soil to vegetation causes high contribution of internal exposure in the total dose of population exposure. Contribution of natural products to the internal dose grew from 6% in 1987 up to 25% in 1996. Individual content of 137Сs in the body of inhabitants reliably correlates with the consumption of milk in the early period after the accident and with consumption of forest mushrooms in the remote period.

Abstract

The problem of damage to mental health of individuals born after theChernobylaccident remains of high interest, especially in the regions which have been subjected to significant contamination as a result of the accident. The article analyzes the dynamics of psychiatric morbidity in population of contaminated and non-contaminated areas of theBryanskregion according to state statistics and to files of neuropsychiatric ambulatory institutions. The incidence rates in the contaminated areas are found to be significantly different from those in the non-contaminated areas. Dynamics of mentally handicapped contingents after the radiation accident depends, at different stages of postaccidental situation, on a complex of factors: social, economic, radiation, and general toxic ones, which once again underlines the general social character of such disasters.

Abstract

This review of publications presents the analysis of national scientific publications and methodological documents on health risks assessments under unfavorable external impacts. In available research publications, the hygienic risks assessment is most often considered in situations of chemicals impact, and such assessment has sufficient methodological providing. Comparison of publications and methodological documents allows determination of the possibility of methodological unity for health risk assessment in conditions of chemical and radiation impacts.

Abstract

An article presents an analysis of the results of research aimed at clarifying the possible shortand long-term effects of exposure from electromagnetic fields (EMF) of mobile radio communication – mobile (cellular)and wireless (home) phones on children and adolescents. Measures are considered to protect them from exposure to EMF, directions for further researches are formulated.

Abstract

Among the rare-earth metals with natural radioactive isotopes, lantan, lutetium and samarium are allocated a relatively high specific activity. The formation of the additional external radiation keep it close to the significance of the materials to the radiation categories of materials with a high content of natural radionuclides of uranium and thorium family, lanthanum value is much less. Samarium, with acceptable toxicology content in the working area, forms the internal exposure to the limits for professionals. The use of these elements in science and industry requires the radiation-hygienic evaluation.
